Pavan Davuluri is the new head of Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft has announced the appointment of a new head of Microsoft Windows and Surface. After the departure of Panos Panay, who previously headed the department.

IIT Madras alumnus Pavan Davuluri took over the post. Last year, Panay left his position to join Amazon. Microsoft used to have separate guidance for Windows and Surface. They were led by Mikhail Parakhin and Pavan Davuluri. Davuluri has now taken responsibility for both Windows and Surface products.

In his new role, he will report directly to Rajesh Jha, vice president of experience and devices at Microsoft. Jha noted in the memo that Windows is once again aligning its Windows and devices. “This enables us to take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences and devices that span the Windows client and the cloud for this era of AI,” the memo said, according to a report by The Verge.

Davuluri has joined an elite group of American Indians who lead Silicon Valley’s tech giants. Madurai-born Sundar Pichai, also an IIT alumnus, is the CEO of Google’s parent company, Alphabet. Satya Nadella has been the CEO of Microsoft since 2014. Other famous CEOs of global technology companies of Indian origin include Ravi Kumar S of Cognizant, Arvind Krishna of IBM, Nikesh Arora of Palo Alto Networks, Neal Mohan of YouTube and Shantanu Narayen of Adobe.
